These factory’s often used the railways for their transport of citric acid (citroenzuur in Dutch), one of the ingredients of carbonated lemonade. Vrolic is a nonexistent lemonade brand invented by Huib Maaskant (see also the More Details tab).

History

In the early 1900’s a lot of lemonade factory’s were founded for the production of carbonated lemonade. These factory’s were relatively small: alone in the Netherlands there were hundreds of them. Production of carbonated lemonade was little more than mixing water, sugar syrup, essence and citric acid, after which carbon dioxide was added under high pressure. These factory’s often used the railways for their transport of citric acid, citroenzuur in Dutch.

The Brick Express tank wagon Vrolic is modeled after Huib Maaskant’s tank wagon. His gauge 0 (1:43.5) Vrolic tank wagon and corresponding lemonade factory can be found on his outstanding model rail road ‘Buitenlust’. You can drive as a train driver along his rail road on Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FskaWBoczcs&list=PLQ9cL9vzk1ICt1SmyxW1bLDpfBddIwyT2&index=1&pp=iAQB
